Christmas gifts from your garden - pomegranate wreath
You can hang this wreath from your front door, or lay it flat on the dining table, if you plan to have candles on the table though, never leave the room unattended because dried flowers are highly flammable!
You need
- A foam or twig circle from a florist or garden centre
- Green binding tape
- 5 or 7 pomegranates
- Glue gun
- Florist wire
- Bright ribbons
- Dried flowers, and green conifer sprigs from your garden
- Pine cones
Wrap the tape around the circle, marking where you want to place the pomegranates. Having an odd number of them means your wreath can never look uneven, whereas an even number can be fiddly to get looking symmetrical.
Cut the base off the pomegranates and scoop out the flesh to use in cooking, fill the hole with newspaper and leave to dry on a radiator. Once dry, spray gently with gilt or sprinkle with glitter.
Glue the pomegranates to the ring. Wind the ribbon between them and then tie out of sight. Wire the larger dried flowers and the pine cones to the ribbon and glue the small flowers in place between them.
As you work, check the placement of the materials - if the wreath is to be hung on a door, it can be better to have more detail at the bottom of the circle, which gives an effect of abundance, but for a flat table wreath, make sure there is something nice to look at from every place setting.
